You are not imagining it and you are not unlucky. The pool on a random video chat skews male, it skews harder at some hours than others, and nothing you install changes who is online. What you can change is how much of your evening you spend looking at people you did not come here for, and that is a different problem with a real answer.
The pool is the reason, and it is measurable
Every complaint about this is really a complaint about the ratio, and the ratio is not a secret. We publish an estimate of it, rolling over the last 30 days, on the state of Ome.tv, alongside how many sampled frames come back dark and how many addresses are carrying a bot signal. It is an estimate rather than a fact, it is measured by a model running on our members’ own machines, and it is published with its confidence attached rather than as a headline number.
Read it before you read anybody’s tips, because it reframes the question. If a large share of the queue is men and another slice is cameras that are off or recordings on a loop, then "how do I see more women" is arithmetic, not technique: you are going to meet a certain number of people before you meet the ones you are looking for. The only variable you control is how long each of those takes.
What does not work, in order of how often it is recommended
- Modded APKs. The listings promise a gender filter, no bans and free premium. Those are decisions made on a server the APK does not control, which is the tell. We wrote the long version at the Ome.tv mod that does not exist.
- Changing your country with a VPN. It changes which pool you are in, not its ratio, and on top of that it puts you in a worse position for bans. It is a real lever for meeting people somewhere specific, and a bad one for this.
- Skipping slowly to please the matching. There is nothing published, by anyone, that supports this. It is folklore, and following it costs you the one resource you actually have, which is time.
- Buying the platform’s own premium. This one genuinely works, and it is worth saying so plainly: Ome.tv sells a gender filter and it does what it says. If that is what you want, buy it from them.
What actually changes it, and the honest version of how
A camera filter running in your browser does not create women, and anybody telling you otherwise is selling something. What it does is take the men out of your queue without you having to watch each one arrive. The people you were going to meet are the same people. You just stop spending four seconds each on the ones you were going to skip anyway.
That is a smaller promise than the mod listings make and a much larger effect than it sounds like, because the cost was never the skipping. It was the attention. An hour of pressing next yourself and an hour of conversations that started on their own are the same hour.
- It reads one frame off the video when somebody connects, decides, and presses next if they are not who you set it for.
- It runs on your own machine, so nothing about the call is uploaded. How that works, in detail.
- The same check catches the two things that waste more of your time than men do: cameras that are off, and recordings pretending to be people.
The limits, before you go and find them yourself
It is an estimate from one frame, so it declines to call a face it is not sure about rather than guessing, and that is the correct trade: a wrong skip costs you the exact conversation you were waiting for. Dark rooms are the hard case. And it cannot do anything at all about the size of the pool at three in the morning.
It also will not stop you being banned, will not unlock the platform’s own paid features, and is not affiliated with Ome.tv in any way. If a page tells you otherwise about any tool, that is the sentence to check first.
