Most Ome.tv pranks come down to one trick: the stranger sees something other than your webcam. The usual way is OBS and a virtual camera. It works, it takes setting up, and it has a cost worth knowing before you start.
Key takeaways
- Instead of your webcam, a stranger can see a video file, a picture, fake skip static or their own camera sent back to them.
- OBS and a virtual camera can do it with some setup, but a still picture or a loop is also what bot accounts send.
- Our extension offers these as camera inputs in the overlay. Keep pranks short and switch back to your camera.
What you can send instead of your camera
- A video file. A clip plays as your camera: a scripted reaction, a jumpscare, a cartoon, somebody who never answers.
- A picture. One still image, for as long as you like.
- Fake skip. Ome.tv’s own static and silence, so they think you left. How that one works.
- Their own camera, the mirror prank. The stranger’s video goes straight back to them, so they are talking to themselves. It is the one that gets the biggest reactions.
Doing it with OBS
OBS Studio turns any scene into a camera: add a media source with your clip, start Virtual Camera, and choose OBS Virtual Camera as the camera in the browser. Plenty of prank channels work exactly like this.
Sending a stranger their own face that way means capturing the browser window, cropping it to their video and hoping the layout never moves. And every call runs through a virtual camera, which is the setup bot accounts use (how Ome.tv bots behave).
Doing it without OBS
Our extension has these as camera inputs in the overlay: Video file, Picture, Fake skip and Their camera, next to Your camera and Your phone. Choose one and it goes out instead of your webcam. Choose Your camera and you are back. The two that depend on timing have their own keys by default: Alt+J for their camera and Alt+Shift+S for the fake skip. The swap happens inside the call, so there is no second program and no virtual camera device.
Your files are remembered between visits. The choice is not: every input goes back to your camera when the page reloads, so you never start a call as a cartoon by accident.
The video, picture, fake skip and their-camera inputs come with VIP. Using your phone as the camera is free on every account, and so is the soundboard.
Where the line is
A still picture or a looping clip is what bot accounts send, whichever tool sends it, so keep pranks short and switch back. Bans come from reports and moderation, and we cannot promise anything on Ome.tv’s behalf.
A fake camera is a joke when the stranger is in on it by the end. It stops being one when it is used to pose as a real person, or to get somebody to show more than they meant to. That is what reports exist for. If you post a reaction anywhere, blur the stranger’s face.
The short version
OBS and a virtual camera can send a clip or a picture, with some setup and a bot-like footprint. The extension sends a video, a picture, fake skip static or their own camera from a menu, on a desktop or laptop in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi. Setup is a Discord sign-in and about two minutes.
