A fake skip is the oldest Ome.tv prank there is. Mid-conversation your video turns into the static Ome.tv shows while it finds the next person, your sound cuts out, and the stranger reasonably assumes you pressed next. You did not. The call is still connected, you can still see and hear them, and what they do next is the whole joke.

Key takeaways

  • A fake skip shows the stranger Ome.tv’s static and silence while the call stays connected, so they think you left.
  • You can build it in OBS with a recording of the static and a virtual camera, which takes some setup.
  • Our extension has it as a camera input with its own key. Keep it funny: a prank that gets you reported can get you banned.

What the stranger actually sees

Ome.tv does not announce that the other person left. The picture turns to static and it starts looking for somebody new. So static where your face was reads as "they skipped me", and most people either skip too or start talking about you, not knowing you are still watching.

The call never ends, so the stranger can still skip you for real. The prank lasts until they do, or until you switch your camera back.

The OBS way, and why it is fiddly

The tutorials that rank for this build it in OBS Studio: record the Ome.tv skip screen, add the clip as a scene, start OBS Virtual Camera and choose that virtual camera in the browser instead of your webcam. Switching scenes switches what the stranger sees. The catches:

  • You need a clean recording of the static first, at a size that does not look stretched.
  • Your microphone keeps sending unless you mute it separately, and one breath gives the joke away.
  • Every call now runs through a virtual camera, which is also what bots use, and that is a common way to get flagged. See why Ome.tv bans people.
  • Getting your face back means switching scenes at the right moment, in a second program.

The one-click way

Our extension has fake skip built in as a camera input. Choose Fake skip in the overlay and the stranger gets Ome.tv static and silence instead of your camera and microphone. Choose Your camera and you are back. The moment for this prank is about a second long, so it also has its own key: Alt+Shift+S by default, pressed again to come back. There is no OBS, no recording to make and no virtual camera: the swap happens inside the call.

The input goes back to your own camera whenever the page reloads, so a prank never follows you into the next session by accident.

Fake skip is one of the prank inputs that come with VIP, next to sending a video file, a picture, or the stranger’s own camera back to them. The soundboard is free on every account.

Keep it funny

Bans on Ome.tv come from reports and moderation, and a prank that gets you reported can get you banned like anything else. We cannot promise anything on Ome.tv’s behalf. A fake skip that ends with both of you laughing gets nobody reported. One used to watch somebody who thinks they are alone is a different thing.

If you post the reaction anywhere, blur the stranger’s face. They did not agree to be in your video.

The short version

A fake skip is Ome.tv static and silence where your camera should be, while the call stays connected. You can build it with OBS and a virtual camera, or choose it from a menu. The extension runs on a desktop or laptop in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, and setup is a Discord sign-in and about two minutes.

Try it on your own Ome.tv

The OME.UNDFND extension shows the country, city and provider of every connection, right on the page. Free to start, and setup takes about two minutes.
